Identify the various layers of the epidermis(keratinised stratified
squamous epithelium) - namely, the stratum basale(germinativum), stratum
spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidum and a stratum corneum. The
underlying dermis consists of dense, vascular connective tissue. Can you
find the adipose subcutaneous tissue? Note the dermal papillae and the
corresponding wavy lines of the epidermis. The keratinised layer is
thick and appears structureless. Identify sweat glands and their ducts.
In the dermis, or hypodermis, look for Pacinian corpuscles, arterioles
and a few peripheral nerve fibres or bundles.
